Ela Kazdal — cameRa shy

24 May-22 June 2025

Fringe Gallery presents Ela Kazdal's first solo exhibition camera shy from 24 May-22 June. Working without a camera, Kazdal unsettles the frame and rejects its function as a boundary between inner and outer spaces. Across the works on display, film asserts its tactile, three-dimensional presence—fractured traces of the visual emerge as the filmstrip and other objects undergo reworking, obscuring, and decay.

LoRena ARticaRdi — DiscouRse at 16 fps

2 -31 August 2025

In Discourse at 16 fps, Lorena Articardi examines the interplay of error, material agency and the constructed-ness of discourse. In an expanded approach to photography and film through photochemical processing and material experimentation, her practice positions light as both subject and medium –content and form.

Finnish Darkroom Association—In the Window - The Intimate Touch of the Gaze

27 June-27 July 2025

In the Window is a group exhibition presenting photographs made using analog methods, centered around themes of nature, everyday life, and the sensitivity of the gaze. The exhibition is curated with the idea of the window not only as a physical space, but also as a metaphor for a gaze that pauses, lingers, and turns inward. The view from a window may remain the same day after day – but the light, the season, the mood, and the point of focus all shift. In much the same way, photography is born from a delicate reaction: an encounter whose uniqueness often lies in small details.

  • live cinema performance 'pareidolia' by bigum+björge

The performance will be held @ The Sugar Factory, Frilundintie 2, 3rd floor, Entrance to the right of the Kellotorni building, Friday June 27th kl(o) 19:30.

During their residency, artist duo Bigum+Björge have continued their exploration called ephemeral beings, working through an intuitive and nature connected lens. Their practice investigates the interplay between human imagination and nature, expressed through 16mm film and still photography. Using a poetic visual language, they engage with nature through themes of belonging, understanding, and the rediscovery of a pure, childlike sense of playful creativity. Through pareidolia—the instinct to perceive familiar forms in abstract patterns—they create a subconscious dialogue between perception and the shapes, materials, and structures found in nature. Deeply inspired by a workshop with Greg Pope, which marked the beginning of their residency, Bigum+Björge’s work culminates in an expanded cinema performance.
