Sara Manninen & Jone Mutka — SLO-MO

11 October - 9 November 2025

SLO-MO is a thematically interwoven exhibition by two printmakers, Sara Manninen and Jone Mutka, combining photo-based printmaking techniques and installation. At the core of the exhibition is the idea of temporality, movement, data and the inherent ability of printmaking to reproduce and record these. The works deal with the need to record a fleeting time and the impossibility to fully capture the original events behind the memories. The works in the exhibition have been created using a variety of printmaking techniques, including photographic techniques (e.g. photopolymer) and a variety of machines (e.g. laser cutting). Artists approach the theme of the exhibition through personal and found material. Both artists' work focuses on the use of photographic elements.

chaRlotte CleRmont — du soleil, que ça existe

22 November - 14 December 2025

du soleil, que ça existe is a three-channel audiovisual installation that combines 16mm film, sound, and spatial design to explore the temporal dimensions of how the body shapes, stores, and creates what we perceive as reality. Centering on themes of longing, distance, and language, this text-based project explores the expansiveness of both language and landscapes, creating a sense of spaciousness within dialogues and framing landscapes as bodies. It examines the human connection with natural elements, particularly water. At its core, the installation embraces fluidity-both of water and identityinviting the audience to reflect on the nature of self and perception. Filmed on black-and-white 16mm, the images move away from classical cinematic storytelling to become paintings or photographs in motion. Although figurative, the slow panoramas of landscapes, close-ups of body parts, and textures evoking water reflections tend towards abstraction. Technically, I used experimental methods such as solarization to produce images that blur the lines between drawing, painting, and film. The result is an evocative play of textures, light, and darkness that adds to the emotional depth of the work. The audio component, with dialogues in French and Finnish, further complicates the distinction of a unique identity, as the same voice seems to belong to several people, thus highlighting the themes of fragmentation and multiplicity. OPEN call 2026

What do we forget – or wish we could forget? What do we leave behind every day, every year or even throughout our entire lives? And what do we collectively leave behind? Which memories do we preserve, and which fade into oblivion?

Memory is a process based on repetition, remembering, and forgetting. It is also a collective process. In this open call, we want to focus on oblivion.

It is important to consider the other active aspect of memory: forgetting. What does oblivion enable us to do? At the same time, it also excludes something. It is important to consider what has been removed from, for example, collective memory or left out, and why. What things stay hidden? What does this reveal about the histories and narratives that have been told? Is it necessary for us to leave something behind and forget things?

Fringe Gallery has an open call for exhibition slots for 2026 dealing with OBLIVION.
